Essay: Short-term Goal, Past Experiences, and Why Mays

Prompt: Answer three questions:

  1. What is your immediate post-MBA professional goal? To the best of your ability, please specify the type(s) of position and type(s) of organization you plan to target.
  2. How do your previous experiences align with this goal?
  3. How will the Mays full-time MBA program help you transform to achieve this career goal?

When answering the first question - "What is your immediate post-MBA professional goal?" - consider the fact that Mays Business School looks for people who wish to become "transformational leaders":

When you write about the type(s) of position that you want to be in after your MBA, write also about how you hope to make a positive impact on business and other people, and the type(s) of organization that you are looking to make an impact on or with, and why. If you have a mission that you pursuing, tell them about that mission.

Secondly, describe why your career goal is realisitic. What previous experiences motivates you to pursue this new position and/or has prepared you to succeed in this new position? What current experience, knowledge, and skills (your professional strengths) that you bring from your professional role to achieve your goals? What from your past experience, personal or professional, motivates you to pursue these goals?

Lastly, describe how the full-time MBA program at Mays Business School aligns with your career goals and will help you to transform yourself into a leader in your area.

Don't just list the opportunities that Mays Business School will provide to you (e.g., classes, specific professors, coaching, experiential projects, the Aggie network). Describe how you will take advantage of these opportunities to work on yourself and become the leader that you envision to be.

Essay: 12 Personal Qualities

Prompt: Please provide a list of the top 12 qualities the Admissions Committee should know about you. At least two of the items on your list should connect to the Texas A&M Core Values:

For every quality that you name for yourself, provide a very short story that shows you using that quality in your professional or personal life. Here are two examples:

"I have a committed vision of what an organization can be. When I volunteered as a math tutor at a public elementary school, I was sad to realize that the small volunteer group was able to assist children once a week at most. I helped recruit 10 more volunteers from my company, and I encouraged my fellow tutors to do the same, so that we could providing tutoring every day after school."

"My integrity is unwavering. In my first retail job, I resisted the pressure of my peers to take my lunch 'on the clock' while also resisting my manager's demands that I cover up inventory shortages. The pressure to just 'go along with the others' was hard to resist as a teenager, but it taught me that feeling good about my personal integrity is more important that the short-term feelings of making people like me in a part-time job."

Prompt: If you would like to share additional information with the Admissions Committee, please do so here. Suitable topics include gaps in post-college work experience and concerns about academic/test performance. (1 page maximum, double-spaced)

Use this essay to turn a potential weakness into a strength. Tell the Admissions Committee what happened and why it happened. Be honest in your self-evaluation. Most importantly, tell them what you have learned from the negative experience, and how this learning has influenced future actions.
